Billing Policy

From the first of November 2023, Bethany Medical Centre will become a mixed billing practice.

As part of our commitment to preserving accessibility to quality healthcare, we will continue to bulk bill children under the age of 16 and concession card holders upon the presentation of a current Medicare Card (and concession card if applicable), as well as our DVA patients.

All other eligible Medicare card holders will be required to pay for their consultations on the day and may have access to on-the-spot rebates. We accept EFTPOS payments and are not able to accept cash or cheques.

* Patients who have only attended our practice for a vaccine or have not attended in over 12 months will be considered a new patient and will be required to book for an initial appointment.

** Patients who have not attended a face-to-face consultation with one of our doctors in the past 12 months will not be eligible for a rebate.

In line with our commitment to preventative healthcare, we will continue to bulk bill NIP immunisations and some chronic disease management services as well as health assessments and mental health care plans for all Medicare card holders.

Please note the following conditions:

1. Fees: All fees payable are at the discretion of the practice and might not be limited to services booked by the patient where they require additional care when attending our practice.

For example, if you book for a standard consultation and require cryotherapy during that visit, this will need to be billed privately in addition to your booked consultation.

We understand that no-one likes surprises, and we will always communicate any additional charges to you before the service is rendered.

2. Cancellations: We endeavour to attend to our patients within a reasonable timeframe; however, appointments are limited. Therefore, we ask that as much notice is given if you need to reschedule or cancel an appointment. This frees up a time slot, allowing others the chance to see the doctor.

Patients who fail to attend their appointment or give less than 3 hours' notice when cancelling their appointment will incur a cancellation fee. The cancellation fee for all booked appointments is 75% of the practice fee.

Please note that cancellation fees are not eligible for Medicare rebates and must be paid in full before bookings for further services will be accepted.

3. Non-Medicare Card Holders: Where a patient does not have a Medicare card, the same fees above will apply, however they patient will not be eligible to receive the Medicare rebate.

4. Work Cover and CTP consultations: We will bill insurers directly where the patient can provide a claim number. If the claim number is not available, we will bill the patient and a receipt will be issued. Subsequently the patient may seek a reimbursement from their insurer.

5. Allied Health: Appointments booked with allied and mental health practitioners operating out of our practice are independent and not subject to this policy. Please refer to the intake forms for each practitioner before your first appointment with them to ensure you understand their fees and conditions.
